The Simple Computer Aided Railway Modeller is a 
freeware program for simplified design of model 
railway layouts and creation of railroad scaled 
track plans.  SCARM contains many libraries of 
manufacturers Ready-To-Run track, as well as flex 
track (including both tinplate and scale in several 
gauges).  There are no limits on the number of 
elements you can include, and you can even design 
your own structures, and place signals.

NOTE: SCARM versions 0.9.32 - 0.9.34 are no longer available anywhere.


WARNING: Beginning with version 0.9.35, SCARM is now "Shareware"!
First, if you launch versions 0.9.35 through just before the newest, 
the program will refuse to start, and you are forced to install the 
latest version (it automatically launches the download webpage, and 
you cannot cancel out or choose to stay with the older version).  
Second, newer versions limit you to a maximum of 100 elements before 
forcing you to acquire a license if you want to add more.  Also, 
although the program can read older plain-text SCARM project files 
(which you could have edited by hand if you ever had the desire), 
newer version project files are now always encrypted.  

NOTE: Although supposedly requiring WinXP, even the newer versions of 
SCARM (version 1.7.0 tested) installs and runs correctly under Win2k.

RECOMMENDATION: The Atlas O 3-rail track pieces will make an excellent 
foundation for a toy train empire.
