NTP (ver 4.2.4p8) Freeware NTP is an accurate NTP Server developed at http://www.ntp.org. In most cases a "Daytime" Server is a better choice to operate. The NTP project mainly produces source code releases of NTP. At the moment there is no official Windows binary distribution available from them. Because a lot of their customers do not have the time or resources to build their own binary version of NTP, Meinberg decided to offer a pre-compiled, easy-to-install software package including an actual version of NTP and all necessary third party add-ons (e.g. OpenSSL libraries). This NTP package contains a GUI installer for Windows which installs executable programs which have been compiled from the original NTP sources available at the NTP download page at ntp.org. The GUI installer also contains the corresponding HTML based NTP documentation, plus a current OpenSSL DLL required by NTP to support authentication. Unattended installation is also supported. This version of NTP only runs on Windows NT and its successors (Win2k, etc.). In order to use this installer, you need Administrator rights. This is only necessary during installation, as the NTP software itself runs fine without admin rights, as long as the SetSystemTime privilege has been assigned to the account used for running the service. We strongly recommend to not run NTP (or any other system service, if possible) using the local system account, or any other account with full administrator rights. If you want, the installer will create a restricted account running the NTP service. NOTE: This is the last Win2k version, and it will only support IPv4 (no IPv6 support).
