ContactKeeper is a personal information manager 
with an integrated birthday reminder calendar.  

During setup, ContactKeeper places its default 
database "ContactKeeper.mdb", into the root of 
"My Documents" (ContactKeeper will also associate 
the "*.mdb" file extension with itself).  You can 
later move this to a new location, rename it, or 
create a new database.  A "*.ldb" file is opened in 
the directory that has the "*.mdb" file, while you 
have ContactKeeper open.  You can specifiy the default 
database to open when you start ContactKeeper.  You 
can export the database (including limiting the export 
to fields of your choosing) to xHTML or TXT.  Note 
that because ContactKeeper uses the Microsoft Access 
database file format, you can import the database 
into Open Office (or Microsoft Office), and print 
mailing labels.  

When you add a new contact, you will be prompted for 
a name.  This is where you would normally enter the 
name of the person, but because the field if freeform,
you can enter anything (business name, nickname, 
ID number, etc.).  This name will appear in the 
alphabetical index.  Note that you can perform a 
search on this name list.

ContactKeeper has a limited list of fields, all of
which are optional to complete.  The "Date of birth" 
field only allows you to enter the persons birth 
date.  Any entry made here will appear in the 
(printable) birthday calendar.  Of course it can be 
some other date, such as a membership renewal date.

The birthday field can have a variable alarm set that 
will warn you ahead of time of an upcoming birthday.  
Whenever you run the suplemental "Birthday reminder" 
program (you can add a shortcut to your Startup menu), 
a dialog box will pop-up if the alarm is due (you can 
also optionally associate a WAV sound).  WARNING: this 
dialog box must be manually closed.  From this dialog 
you can launch ContactKeeper, and the associated contact 
with the birthday will be displayed.  WARNING: only the 
database that you have set as "default" will be searched 
by the Birthday reminder program for upcoming birthdays.  

The remaining Fields "Address" (mailing address), 
"Numbers" (telephone numbers), "E-mail", and "Note" 
are all freeform fields.  All of these fields may be 
copied to the clipboard.  The "E-mail" field will 
also allow you to send the copied address directly 
to your default email program (but NOT your webmail).  
Note that because these fields are freeform, you 
could for example save FidoNet Mail addresses in the 
E-Mail field, or employee numbers in the Numbers field.  
Each of these fields can be specifically searched on 
to find all the contacts that contain a keyword.
