DSpeech (ver 1.62.2) Freeware Text-to-Speech is one of the Accessibility Options bundled by Microsoft into their newer operating systems. Win2k will also support TTS, but it requires downloading several separate components. DSpeech is a program that reads text and speaks it. It requires MSVBVM60.DLL and the Microsoft SAPI5 voice engine be installed (SAPI5.1 comes with 3 voices). It can open TXT, RTF, HTML, and XML files (PDF files with the DSpeech plugin), whether local files or a URL. DSpeech can read directly to a MP3 file (using LAME). It can also recognize your voice as spoken into a microphone, and translates it into text (you must first install the Microsoft Speech Recognition engine). Say: Coma for ",", and Period for ".". Text can be saved. By right-clicking inside the text box, more commands become available. You can insert special programming commands such as add silence, play a sound file (which you can record directly with DSpeech), or spell-out the individual letters in a word. NOTE: This is the last Win2k version. ---------- INSTALLAION INSTRUCTIONS: First load the SAPI5.1 engine. It is suggested that it be installed in the directory "WINNT\Speech". file = sapi51.zip Next load the Speech Recognition engine (run "Setup.Exe"). file = SR.zip Next extract the DSpeech directory from the archive. DSpeech does NOT require installation. file = dspeech.zip Add to the DSpeech directory the file MSVBVM60.DLL. file = MSVBVM60.zip Add the DSpeech PDF plugin (just extract the file "pdftotext.exe" and add it to the DSpeech directory). file = PDF_Plug-In.zip NOTE: After you run DSpeech, a "DSpeech.ini" file will be created in the DSpeech directory. NOTE: SAPI5 and SR settings are configured in Control Panel, under the Speech icon.
