VirtualBox is a general-purpose full virtualizer for x86 hardware.  
This is NOT an emulator.  You must actually install the OS you 
wish to use inside the VirtualBox environment (so you must provide 
an installable copy of the OS that VirtualBox can access).  

Once installed, the OS inside VirtualBox will believe that it is 
running exclusively on its own personal computer, whos hardware 
settings match the parameters set by VirtualBox.  Naturally, 
since VirtualBox is only allocating existing hardware resources, 
the OS you install must be able to run on native x86 hardware.
