The Microsoft philosophy is to advertise that their software does virtually everything. The company therefore bundles dozens of mini-programs called "applets" with their Windows Operating System, so that they can legally advertise that Windows offers the feature in question. However nearly all of these applets perform their roles rather poorly, and so should be replaced with the 3rd party applets found here.
Note: Nearly every useability feature Microsoft touted as being unique to Windows XP can be added to Windows 2000 using the 3rd party utilities found here.
